Dodge Challenger Update
We have been getting alot of questions sent in by means of our contact
form regarding the production of the awesome new Challenger, and
we at DodgeChallenger.com wanted to make a few things clear, as
well as explaining what we know about what COULD BE with the new
Challenger.
| The
three most commonly sent-in remarks are as follows: |
|
| 1. |
Please build
this awesome new car. |
| 2. |
How do I
acquire information about pre-ordering a new Challenger? |
| 3. |
Will there
be different trim lines, and if so, what engine/transmission
options will be offered in the various trimlines,
and what will they cost? |
|
|
| 1. |
We are not associated with DaimlerChrysler Corporation, so we are unable to have any real input to the
company on whether or not they build this car. However, with
the amazing amount of interest in the Challenger Concept at
Auto shows, in magazines, and online, it would be a disappointing
surprise if DCX opted not to build this car. Many rumors have
surfaced that this car has been given the green light to begin
factory re-tooling for production.
|
| 2. |
Again, since we are not associated with DCX, we have no
information on how to pre-order this new car. Since there
has been no official statement made by DCX yet pertaining
to production or release, dealerships will likely not even
be able to take orders, but as news becomes more official,
your local dealership would have the best information on ordering
your very own new Dodge Challenger.
|
| 3. |
This one is a bit tricky. Since the "green light for production
rumors", are just rumors, information on actual production
is all-theoretical. It is the opinion of many that the production
Challenger could go one of two directions.
|
|
|
|
| The first
of the two directions is that the Challenger will
be a limited production vehicle. If this is the
case, there will likely be very few options, and
all of the Challengers will closely resemble each
other. The rumor of this production direction
includes the rumor that the Challenger will only
be offered with the 6.1L, 425 horsepower Hemi,
which is found in the SRT-8 variants of the Charger,
300C, and Magnum. That engine will supposedly
be mated to a T56 Tremac 6-speed Manual Transmission.
This combination of a "new" 6-speed transmission,
the powerful 6.1L Hemi, and the low production
numbers does sound enticing, but this will likely
make the price very high, and with the high demand,
there will likely be a very large dealer mark-up.
This would be "bad news" for anyone who wants
to buy the Challenger as a daily driver or as
a car to modify for racing purposes, in comparison
to buying something like a Mustang or GTO. We
could possibly expect the MSRP to be around $40,000,
and after dealer markup, who knows how expensive
they would be. |
|
|
|
|
| We like to
call this the "everyman's muscle car" option.
This direction includes several possible trim
lines for the new Challenger. If DCX should go
this direction with production, production numbers
will likely very high, and there will be a fairly
wide spread in price from the lower performance
models to the high performance models. Options
would be much more likely, as the Challenger would
be more of a made-to-order model, and would be
more customizable. The prices would vary greatly,
and could possibly be as low as $24,000, with
the high end/high performance models into the
mid-$30,000 to 40,000 range. Based on past models,
such as the closely related LX Platform models
(Charger, 300, Magnum), these are the trim lines
which could be offered for the new Dodge Challenger.
