Dodge Challenger Update - Page 2

Option 2a:
Challenger SE
2.7L, 200 horsepower V6, mated with both a 4-speed automatic and possibly a 5-speed manual transmission, estimated price could be around $24,000
Challenger SXT
3.5L, 250 horsepower V6, mated with a 4-speed automatic transmission, estimated price could be around $26,000
Challenger SXT
3.5L, 250 horsepower V6, mated with a 4-speed automatic transmission, estimated price could be around $26,000
Challenger SRT8
6.1L, 425 horsepower Hemi, mated with a 4-speed automatic transmission, or a 6-speed T56 Tremec manual transmission, estimated price could be around $33,000-40,000

Should option 2 be the direction with which DCX takes the Challenger, this is the most likely, just based on what we have seen in the current RWD models offered by DCX. There are rumors of this 5-speed automatic transmission, as well as a new 5-speed manual transmission in the works, but there is no support for that, but for insurance purposes, the 5-speed manual would likely only be mated to the base model engine. The trim lines mentioned are exactly what are offered of the current RWD models, and some FWD models. Even though the Challenger R/T displayed at the various Auto Shows carries the 6.1L Hemi, if they were to mass produce the Challenger, it is more likely that the Challenger SRT8 would share the engine of the other SRT8 products. However, due to this 6.1L R/T show car, we have established Option 2b.

Option 2b:
Challenger SE
3.5L, 250 horsepower V6, mated with a 4-speed automatic transmission and possibly a 5-speed manual transmission, estimated price could be around $26,000
Challenger SXT
5.7L, 345 horsepower Hemi, mated with a 4-, or possibly 5-speed automatic transmission, estimated price could be around $28,000-30,000
Challenger R/T
6.1L, 425 horsepower Hemi, mated with a 6-speed T56 Tremec manual transmission, estimated price could be around $33,000-40,000

This option is based off of the hope that the Challenger will be a full production car, and is also based on the fact that the Challenger R/T displayed at the Auto Shows has the 6.1L Hemi and 6-speed transmission. But, like with Option 2a, there are questions, such as "Why would the Challenger not have an SRT8 model, if the other RWD platform cars have them?" Some reply with" there would be no engine upgrade available if the 6.1L was in the R/T models", but at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, the 1970 Dodge Challenger packed with their new 6.4L, 510 estimated horsepower, Hemi crate engine. They also had this engine on a stand for viewing. Well, that is where option 2c comes into play.

Option 2c:
Challenger SE
3.5L, 250 horsepower V6, mated with a 4-speed automatic transmission and possibly a 5-speed manual transmission, estimated price could be around $26,000
Challenger SXT
5.7L, 345 horsepower Hemi, mated with a 4-, or possibly 5-speed automatic transmission, estimated price could be around $28,000-30,000
Challenger R/T
6.1L, 425 horsepower Hemi, mated with a 6-speed T56 Tremec manual transmission, estimated price could be around $33,000-40,000
Challenger SRT8
6.4L, 510 horsepower Hemi, mated with a 6-speed T56 Tremec manual transmission, estimated price could be around $45,000-55,000, but based on the price of the Dodge Viper, prices for this unlikely model could climb as high as $70,000, especially considering that the performance could be similar to that of the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06

All Dodge enthusiasts KNOW that the 6.4L exists, we just don’t know why. You would think that in designing this monster motor, they had more than just crate sales and engine swaps in mind when they were working on the design. This option is based mostly on hope, as this Challenger SRT8, if equipped with the monster 6.4L Hemi, would officially be one of the most powerful muscle cars ever rolled onto a showroom floor. This would be a vehicle to rival the COPO Camaro's, the SVT Cobras, and even the Original Hemi Challengers. If this did happen, the SRT8 would likely be very, very expensive, as it would be competition for the Dodge Viper, but it would still be one mean machine.
